Where are you investing right now?
And I’m not just talking about money and markets.
I mean where are you devoting your time, energy and attention in the hopes of achieving a return?
You see, we’re all investors, even if we don’t have millions in the markets. We all have resources that we’re putting into things because we believe they’re going to produce good outcomes for us.
Exercise is an investment in your health. Spending time with a loved one is an investment in your relationship. Seeing a therapist is an investment in your mental health.
Now, just like with your money, the key to getting good returns is to invest in things that are going to compound over a long period of time.
So you want to make investments in things that are going to stick around, ideally for decades.
That’s why it makes sense to invest in your closest relationships. Your most valuable relationships tend to be your oldest ones.
That’s why it makes sense to invest in your community, too, especially if you have no intention of moving.
Invest in projects you think have a chance of lasting. Invest in companies you believe have a bright long-term future.
Make long-term commitments and then continue to invest, day after day, year after year. And in twenty or thirty years, you will have created a rich life.
Broadly understood, that’s what investing is all about.
