2021 was big. Tallkirk Financial Group Inc. was born, as were my twins, Liam and Keira (or was that the year before? Who even knows anymore. Is time even real?). I also switched to a new investment platform, hired my best friend Steele to be head of communications, and built a new website at www.TallKirk.ca
In short, things went down, and I’ve never been more excited about what the future holds for myself, my family, my company (still sounds surreal!), my clients and my community. I’m writing you this letter because, despite the hard times we’ve been through the past two years, I want you to be excited about your future, too.
I think people are often quite cynical when it comes to making money and building wealth. They think it’s superficial. That it’s not meaningful. That it can’t buy happiness.
There might be some truth to that. Some people get too obsessed with making more money and increasing their net worth anyway they can. Some people lose sight of the fact that it’s just a means to an end.
But the past seven years of helping people improve their finances has also shown me that this work can be deeply rewarding and incredibly meaningful. Helping people get rid of the debt that’s been dragging them down. Helping them save for their first home, for their kid’s education, for their retirement. Helping them feel less anxious and worried, more calm and confident.
Having more money won’t make all your problems disappear, but it can in fact buy a lot of things that are critical to leading a good, long, fulfilling life.
Money can buy you less stress, better sleep, and more room for error. A good education. A happier marriage. A place to call home that’s truly your own. A solid foundation on which to build a life. A future full of hope.
These are not small or insignificant things. They are the building blocks of a better life.
When I think about the year ahead, I’m excited most about the impact I’ll have on the lives of the people I work with. I’m excited about the conversations I’ll have about people’s hopes and dreams for the future. I’m excited about helping people make sure they have enough money to buy the things only money can.
Thank you to everyone for trusting me from the beginning, for working with me before I really even knew what I was doing, and for sticking with me through this transition. None of this would be possible without you.
